Tim Russert passes while preparing final voiceovers for weekend edition of MTP.
This was quite a shocker to learn. He'd just published an article earlier this AM about need of media to be careful with fact checking when covering the campaign.
Then, while heading out here to lunch earlier today, the news first hit the press that he'd collapsed at NBC studios, having died of an apparent heart attack. According to NBC, "He was rushed to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, said Russert’s physician, Michael Newman, who said the cause of death was not immediately known."
While a total liberal and previously dedicated aide to former Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan for five years and NY Governor Mario Cuomo for two years thereafter, Russert was a reasonably fair host and an unblemished fan of American Politics.
His 2008 campaign coverage will be missed.
He was also VP of NBC News and head of its DC operations - hopefully NBC will not stoop to having Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews or any of their ilk take over at MTP - maybe a screaming albeit not insane liberal like Andrea Mitchell might take his place.
